Love is the world’s infinite mutability; lies, hatred, murder even, are all knit up in it; it is the inevitable blossoming of its opposites, a magnificent rose smelling faintly of blood. Click To Tweet

Everybody likes the cool girl. She is the one making the funny jokes during literature class, she has the funky hairdo that is a conversation starter. She is smart, gets good grades and always wins the cooking challenges. All the boys like her, all the girls want to be like her, you? You hate that you love being around her.

She introduced you to John Lennon, and Mura Masa. Her playlist has the latest releases, her Instagram gets 1000 likes in 10 minutes. Cool girl loves to cook, babysit, art galleries, rock concerts and chemistry class. You could literally pluck her from her immediate environment and put her in an igloo and she would still star that setting.

She makes you look bad without trying and even your crush has a crush on her. When you grow up you will remember the flaws she hid but now you are just wishing you will find someone to marry you so you don’t have to compete.

And that’s the problem with the cool girl.

Amazing Amy

This Amazing Amy is the standard that every woman must achieve. And boys like her. She can chug beer, she plays Play Station and understands football. She’s a ‘boyz’ with all the right curves. Having her for a girlfriend is like Christmas come early. Now imagine marrying her?

No one wears their makeup to bed. When the show is over, you revert to default settings. So what happens when you married cool girl only to realize that is just one of the 29.7 faces she wears?

To be fair, you also duped her, telling her you like Mozart and drinking beer only when she isn’t around. You were the cute bear hugger who never loses their temper and isn’t intimidated by how people worship her.

…the definition of a gentleman: a guy who could quote a great poet, order a rare scotch and buy a woman the right piece of vintage jewelry. Click To Tweet

Now, now you can’t live up to Miss Perfect.

So who is the first suspect when your wife goes missing on your anniversary? There was obviously a struggle, she must have been taken. I mean, she had stalkers before, she is still perfect even in this drab town.

Your wife is missing and there is a treasure hunt you have to complete to know what actually happened to her.

Is she dead, missing, or just winning?

Gone Girl is interesting. The first part is slow, a little deceiving but worth the pain. Once everything falls into place you can’t help but sing praise about Gillian Flynn. Gone Girl is what happens when cool girl stops trying. It’s life in reality and how if we all stopped setting unrealistic standards, maybe we’d all win…maybe.
